First, here are some questions you need to consider:

1. Dogs, especially our Singapore Specials, can have a lifespan for up to 18 years (if lucky!) Are you prepared to care for it lovingly till the end?

2. Is everyone in your home/ family agreeable to the adoption and ready to accept the doggo as family?

3. Are you prepared to mesh your windows and dogproof your home?

4. Good quality dog food costs around S$150/ month - factor in another S$50 for toys and treats. Vet bills can be quite expensive - for healthy dogs’ checkups, factor in S$100-200/ year. More if your dog is ill. Are you ok with this financially?

5. Dogs - again, especially our Singapore Specials - need to be trained to live well with their family and the neighbours. Are you prepared to do this?

6. What’s your lifestyle like? Would you be prepared to walk your dog twice a day? Most shelter dogs also don’t do well when left alone for long periods (5+ hours).

This is our main adoption criteria! You have to be agreeable to all these conditions, otherwise, we will not be able to proceed. More details can be found in our adoption interest form, but these the key ones:

1. Your windows must be grilled/meshed and your home dogproofed (including removing plants toxic to dogs).

2. You must be willing and able to provide timely and adequate medical care for your dog when needed.

3. You must be willing and able to provide a good environment, good nutrition and enough exercise for your dog.

4. You must be willing to engage a professional trainer for a basic obedience course.

5. You must not let your dog wander outdoors unsupervised without a leash.

3. We will contact you to set up an appointment! Please note this will be Saturday, 2-5pm or Sunday 3-6pm only.

4. We welcome you to Metta for your first visit!! Chat with us about the doggo you’re keen on, and whether he/she is suitable for your home.

5. Ponder ponder ponder… We have a 1-week cooling off period where you think about your doggo and update your family/ housemates.

6. We welcome you for your next visit! We require adopters to come minimum 6 times to walk, play and bond with your potential doggo.

7. Keen to proceed? Get your home prepped! We’ll provide a checklist for you.

8. Once you’re all ready, we will set up a video call or house visit to check out your dog-proofing, and give some tips as needed!

9. If all is ok, we will bring doggo down to begin a 2-week adoption trial.

10. After 2 weeks, if all’s good - ADOPTION SUCCESS! Keep in touch with us! We LOVE getting cute doggo pics and vids! :)
